Dating from the same late-Victorian period as its neighbours, this sandstone building was most likely a single residence which was divided into three apartments during the 1940’s.
The dressed sandstone has unfortunately been painted as is the case with many sandstone buildings in town. The most popular method to remove the paint is by sand blasting - a laborious and rather expensive process. The result, however, is quite acceptable and commendable.
Many smaller houses in this neighbourhood close to the church, were originally built by farmers as weekend homes. They have become known as "die nagmaal-huisies" as they afforded accommodation to the farming community during the quarterly celebration of Holy Communion by the Dutch Reformed Moederkerk nearby. Today they are sought-after residences close to the amenities of the CBD.
